Please Vaccinate to Protect our Children and Infants against Whooping Cough (Pertussis) this Fall!
There are many reasons that factor into a family's decsion whether to or when to vaccinate its children. LPJ respects this careful decision. With that in mind, we would also like all families to take into consideration that in 2010 there were nearly 8,000 cases of Pertussis in California and Marin county had the second highest percetage of cases in the nation! The State of California is madating the vaccine this Fall for all children entering the 7th grade and higher due to the dangers surrounding this wide-spread out-break. As this illness can be particularly harmful (and in some cases deadly - 10 infants died of pertussis last year) to young infants who do not yet have immunity to the virus, we encourage your families to consider vaccinating against Whooping Cough this season for our new school session. I and many other families within the LPJ community will be bringing new babies home this Fall and so it is a decision that hits very close to home for us.
